Feurn was born to a high noble family (region pending), and within the first years of his life it became apparent that he was both too curious and willful to exist within high society and not bring shame to his family. While there was no hostility or anger in what his parents did, they supplied him with a small bursary, essentially a bribe, and severed him from family communications.
Using the money he had been provided, his natural curiosity and perceptiveness, as well as what social graces he had gleaned in his years of nobility, he opened a successful-enough investigations firm. His business focus is on information gathering, kidnapping cases, lost articles, and, sometimes, odder requests. He makes enough from this line of work to sleep in a fold-out cot in his office, and to eat three (sometimes two) filling meals a day.
Due to being outcast from his home, and the ongoing mediocrity of his business, he has become convinced that the god of luck, The Unknowable One, is out to get him or make his life difficult. In an odd twist of fate, however, one of his more recent investigations led to the downfall of a local branch of the Unknowable One’s church. The head priest, after the fact, did everything in his power to lay a curse of his god on Feurn. It is up for debate whether or not this actually worked, but it certainly hasn’t made things any better.
