Ashandarei is the second son of the Arkhwisard Melasion by his Druid wife Elleneirlir. Being born into such a potent magical bloodline it was assumed Ashandarei like his elder brother before him (Currently training as a druid) would follow in his parent’s footsteps however it was not to be. Due to some quirk of nature Ashandarei suffers from a rare condition known as Magic Forbiddance.
This hindrance was discovered at an early age and Ashandarei was shunned and sometimes bullied by other children because of it. As a result he had few friends, and even then they were often driven away by embarrassment and peer pressure. Ashandarei quickly became a focus of his father’s magical studies as he attempted to determine the cause of this “malady” and if possible a cure.
Ultimately it was not to be, unfortunately for Ashandarei his presence became a constant reminded to Melasion of his failure as he sees it as both a father and a mage. Additionally Ashandarei blamed his father’s studies for his “magic leaper” outcast status by his peers. Over time this has caused a rift in their relationship, they have become estranged and cannot stand to be in each other’s presence.
His elder brother did what he could for Ashandarei as he was growing up, however he could not always be there and indeed was often away as part of his druid apprenticeship. Likewise as a Druid herself his mother’s many responsibilities kept her from providing Ashanarei with the attention he craved and the rift between he and his father placed an additional strain on her marriage.
Ashandarei was an indifferent student often refusing to engage himself fully in classes with other students, however he was extremely gifted when it came to learning the art of the blade and was as much at home in the woods as any Elf. His mother aware of his unhappiness at home and obvious abilities arranged for Ashandarei to live with her second-cousin Lellwin Dawnbreeze as his ward.
It was under the tutelage of Lellwin that Ashandarei first became aware of the order of Wood Wardens and is now striving to be initiated into their ranks as a respected member.
